Dexter seasons serial#
Serial killers are a familiar subject in fiction, but Dexter Morgan already has a spot right at the top of the most memorable. And keeping it all working start to finish is Hall, who makes for one of the most charismatic and fascinating portrayals of this type of character since Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. Interesting steps are taken along the way, such as revealing who the killer is to the audience well before Dexter finds out, and it all pays off very well. The 12-episodes tell a very complete and fascinating story about Dexter and the Ice Truck Killer, that lead to a very satisfying conclusion. Overall, this is a show that really clicked in quickly. Lee as Dexter's colleague, the lovably creepy Masuka. More accessible are David Zayas's kind-hearted cop Angel, and C.S. Laguerta (Lauren Valez) that seem a bit forced, though more interesting moments also occur for her along the way. There are also a couple of attempts to add layers to police Lt. Too clearly, as King's uber-intense, bellowing cop is a bit too amped up and abrasive, to the point of near parody. Dexter works as a forensics blood spatter expert for the police (perfect, no?) and the one man who seems to see through his nice guy facade is Detective Doakes (Erik King), who clearly gets bad vibes from Dexter. There are some off moments of the series to be sure. Both these relationships are fascinating and involving parts of the story. The season also charts Dexter's inner journey, as a man who is so sure he has no emotions at all has to process just what it is he does feel about those who are close to him, including his sister (Jennifer Carpenter), and a girlfriend ( Angel's Julie Benz) he has for appearances sake, yet he can't help but being rather protective of.
Dexter seasons code#
There are many excellent scenes showing that while Dexter knows this is just the sort of guy he needs to stop, he's also incredibly excited, and even impressed, by a man who is so good at a craft that Dexter is just as much a part of, code or no code. The Ice Truck Killer becomes fixated on Dexter, knowing more than he should about him, and beginning a game of cat and mouse that Dexter is incredibly excited to join in on. The entire first season of the show dealt with The Ice Truck Killer, another serial killer, who unlike Dexter, is making sure all of Miami knows he's in town and leaving a trail of eerily bloodless bodies behind him. Hall perfectly embodies this man, playing both Dexter and the persona that Dexter himself is playing, while always allowing us to see the dangerous glint underneath the facade Dexter is putting up. But he knows it's pivotal he fit in, and act the part of a grieving coworker, a caring boyfriend, or whatever the situation calls for. More than that, Dexter has a hard time processing emotions, and in fact doubts he even has any genuine feelings. Dexter is a man who is putting up a big front to all of those around him the front of a nice, normal, non-serial killer.

Hall is absolutely phenomenal in this role. Hall who guides the show as the adult version. While we see many flashbacks to Dexter as a boy and a teenager, it's Six Feet Under's Michael C.
